Gert D'Haese

Gert D’Haese studied at the Brussels Conservatory with Gert François, Robert Van Sice, and Bart Quartier. He also completed an intensive two-year course in ethnic percussion with Frank Michiels. He obtained first prizes and higher diplomas in percussion and chamber music.
During this period, he was a member of the OXO Percussion Trio, with which he gave several concerts and made recordings for the former Radio 3. In 1991, the trio won second prize at the Orpheus Competition for contemporary chamber music. In 1993, Gert was awarded first prize in the soloist category at the same competition.
He has performed as a timpanist and percussionist with, among others, the National Orchestra of Belgium and numerous chamber ensembles, including Spectra Ensemble, Champs d’Action, Musique Nouvelle, and Oxalys.
From 1989 to 2005, he performed as a percussionist at Night of the Proms in Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Germany.
He was also active in the L’Arco Musicale orchestra, conducted by Dirk Brossé, touring throughout Flanders with a variety of projects. The programme featured primarily works by Brossé himself, including Artesia, The Birth of Music, and Le Soledad, as well as soundtrack recordings for the films Daens and Licht.
Gert is currently a permanent percussionist and second timpanist with Brussels Philharmonic.
